This is a glossary of terms and acronyms that I think are relevant to understanding my writing. I find shorthand very useful, but I understand that it is becomes an impediment to those who don't know the shorthands I use. I will update this periodically. Lmk if you are confused about any terms!
The Terms
- afaict: acronym for "as far as I can tell"
- damng: damn + dang
- eg: short for the Latin "exempli gratia," meaning "for example"
- Experiencer: one who Experiences
- Goodharting: a verb used to describe someone (or some entity, eg an ML model) that is optimizing over/pursuing a metric, which results in negative (and potentially unintended consequences); from Goodhart's Law
- ie: short for the Latin "id est," meaning "that is;" I use it often to mean, "in other words"
- ime: acronym for "in my experience"
- imo: acronym for "in my opinion"
- lmk: acronym for "let me know"
- lyk: acronym for "let you know"
- ml: acronym for "machine learning"
- (the) Others: those who are not the Experiencers that i Experience, the true boundary is...unclear
- (the) Self: ???
- (the) Shell: the interface through which an Experiencer Experiences
